These heartwarming, melodic compositions are recorded with stunning
acoustic clarity. Weaving around the acoustic guitar are the rich
textures and velvet harmonies of the violin. the album also features
tracks with piano and flute (instruments sampled on a Kurzweil K2000
synthesizer) that create new expressions in Spencer's music.
Spencer's Comments: "Warmth is my first recording played
entirely on a keyboard. It's a piano piece with all kinds of strings
and the sounds of a vocal choir added for meodic and structural
support. The K2000 has an amazingly potent flute sound. Silver Birch
contains a lovely arrangement for two flutes. Hands of Love was a song
I first recorded in 1990 as a 20-minute guitar piece. For years I heard
the melodies but never could play them on the violin until I simply
changed keys. The result is a tour de force in two parts that is the
climax of the album."
"There is only one CD I never grow tired of and find myself
listening to time and time again...Close to Home by Spencer Lewis. It
is by far some of the most beautiful, moving and downright honest music
I have ever heard." -1996 Letter to Quartz
