Flying Bird Brings Message
is an unpolished gem. Songs fresh from a summer and fall of recording
in Spencer's home studio, they are important and vital reflections of
where his music is right now. By unpolished we mean, not 'mastered' in
a bigger studio as per our last 4 CD's. These are the latest mix's
offered now, for the moment, as the moment is all we have. It is music
in keeping with a style that was last offered as far back as 1995 with
the release of Close To Home; very simple productions of violin and
guitar; intimate and pure. There is one 'outake' from Song of Stone
that also features Dan Haley on mandolin and Scott Paulson on bass, but
other than that, this is all Spencer's music. From the first song
recorded in May "Code of Stone" an off-shoot from the song "Secret Code
of Stone" (A Sense of Place), to the last song recorded a few weeks ago
"Sun Drenched Mornin' in Gilead", there was a new voice from the violin
waitng to emerge. The violin track on "Code of Stone" was the first to
make that known to me. They are for the time being, the last tracks
I'll record using my well worn Magini Copy violin of the past 13 years.
I aquired a new violin this May, right after that recording which
allowed me to explore the instrument in a more refined and present way.
There are 2 'demo's made in John Huling's studio, demos for a possible
upcoming release next summer on his own Novox label. I was able to
capture my old Gurian J-B-3 as it has never been captured. I never
called it a 'six-string piano' for nothing. This is the proof. Of
course these tracks were never meant for relase which makes them even
more appealing. And finally, the graphic of a piece of Birch bark,
found on my land while simply looking down on the ground one fateful
moment allowed Jason from hi-fi-lo-fi in Newport, Vermont to knock this
project off in less than 2 weeks; after 15 CD's in 15 years - a worlds
record. That's it fer now; Thanks for listening.
