guitar, violins, piano, hammond B-3 organ, synthesizer, and bass guitar
The elements that made Spencer's previous release Silence Between the Words so compelling are captured in full glory on his latest CD In the Light of Autumn.
The intuitive and powerful piano playing of Chas Eller is seamlessly
entwined with Spencer's inimitable cross-flat-picking guitar style.
Eller's other keyboard contributions include the Hammond B-3 organ with
its rich and distinctive sound along with a lush palette of synthesizer
passages. Rounding out the ensemble is the warm sound of Mark LeGrand's
bass guitar. A one song performance by percussionist Robin Cavenaugh
accentuates the unusual and bouncy track Honoring Soft Maple. There are eight songs in all, some on the long side; Stem Turn in Wilderness is almost eight minutes while Honoring Soft Maple
is over nine. Like any other Spencer Lewis CD, it will be easy to get
lost; in peaceful thoughts or in the passion of the music. For one only
needs to be lost... just enough... to be found.
